I’ve had venous thrombosis: can I play sports?

13 October 2025

Physical and sports activity is essential for a good quality of life and maintaining physical and psychological health. How can this be reconciled with a venous thromboembolic event?

Dr. Daniela Poli, co-author of a recent consensus document from the Italian Federation of Centers for the Surveillance of Antithrombotic Therapies (FCSA) on thrombosis and sports, explains this in an interview with Senigallia Basket 2020.

Senigallia Basket 2020 promotes an annual event, the “Memorial amici di Sciarro,” in memory of a fellow player who sadly passed away prematurely from pulmonary embolism. The event also aims to raise awareness about venous thromboembolism and strategies to prevent it.
